Starting a family
The newlyweds Aggie and Al moved into an old farmhouse on Nottingham Road in the East Side of Cleveland, and later expanded it and turned it into a joy-filled home for a growing family. First came Cindy in 1953, and then in two-year intervals came John (1955), Mark (1957) followed by Tom (1959), then Charlie (1961) and finally Robbie (1963). Aggie’s daily routine became a succession of diapers, birthday parties, grade school events, CYO sports events, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts camping trips, first Communions, and every Sunday high Mass at 11:15 at St Jerome’s church. Al traveled frequently for his insurance business and on weekends with his band, leaving Aggie to manage a growing brood with help from her mother Frances and mother-in-law Josephine.
